AFFORDABLE ARTWORK: Finding affordable artwork that you love is one of the hardest things about decorating a home. A house doesn’t feel like a home with bare walls–It just feels unfinished! And if you are anything like me, then your taste usually runs on the expensive side, so you feel trapped with no options. But I have good news! Not only did I find amazing budget-friendly limited edition prints from actual artists; but, you can order them all with or without frames to save money if you want to DIY the frames yourself! Disclosure: I received product to review for this post.
I am talking about huge abstract paintings that would normally cost an arm and a leg (like the one above) which are now reasonably priced because they are prints! And the quality is amazing! I won’t lie, I was skeptical. We are big original art people in our family, since my mother-in-law is an artist; but, I was blown away by the quality from Minted.com!

WHERE TO FIND AFFORDABLE ARTWORK:
There are tons of sites out there to find art prints; but, I haven’t found one yet, that rivals Minted.com between their customer service and their selection. For this post, I tried to go through their entire inventory and pick out my favorites, and let me tell you, it took a long long time! Basically, I could fill all the walls in my house with them and still want more!
Then you’ll come to something like the following page. I tend to like abstract prints (can you tell from the artwork in my house?) ; but, I also like photography. So I usually select those two options. You can even select which orientation you want the artwork to be (portrait/ landscape/ square) which is really helpful if you are searching for a piece for a specific spot. If you have an artist that you love, you can even browse for their prints by selecting their name!
HOW TO FRAME AFFORDABLE ARTWORK:
Next, you select your size, the frame, and the matting. I always like matting on prints and photographs because it looks nicer. You can see all those items here. I love their framing service; but, if it isn’t in the cards, you can always build one like we did for our canvas original print in the living room. For the abstract painting in our bedroom, I chose a specialty frame “matte brass.” You can see it isn’t a gold, and it isn’t a brass. I would describe it more like a platinum gold. The matte is printed directly on the print.
HOW TO PICK OUT AFFORDABLE ARTWORK YOU LOVE:
Picking out affordable artwork that you absolutely love is so much easier now! I tend to know my style pretty well–I like punches of bold color, and my favorites are pink and blue. But, if you don’t know what your style is, then think about the space you are decorating. Could it use some color or do you need more neutrals? In our living room, we have a big splash of color in the middle, and then on either side, we have black and white prints (see below.) In general, each room should have three main colors or components. In our living room it is pink, black, and yellow.
In our master bedroom, it is blue, white, and pink!
And if you are completely stuck and don’t know where to start–look for colors you like. Your wardrobe says a lot about your favorites–mine is mostly blue with pink accessories. Pick out pieces of art that make you happy, and that are pleasant to live with. That was the motto of one of the most amazing art collectors of the 20th century–Henry Clay Frick. He always picked out paintings that were “pleasant to live with” not necessarily what art collectors told him to buy!
