Welcome to the Pink Door Holiday Tour! If you are new around here, my name is Annie and I am a SAHM/ WAHM of two, DIYing her way to her dream home in Wisconsin! I am so excited to team up with so many other talented ladies for this holiday tour, and I know you will love all the holiday decor!
With a Great Dane (whose tail packs a punch) and two minis around here (under four years old) including one toddler boy who loves to turn any round object into a missile, our holiday decor is a little simpler this year. Beautiful bowls of ornaments sitting on tabletops was not happening! Instead, everything is up high! And in full disclosure, we have a barricade of stools around the Christmas tree–see the unedited picture on my FB page! So today, you get to see my compromise–lots of decor in a few places (that are out of reach from little hands)!
First, I will take you to the heart of the home–our family room. This is one of the most popular before and after’s of our house. Let’s just say it was VERY brown beforehand!
I decided to go big with the mantle this year with a Portlandia inspired mantle #PutABirdOnIt! Not really, but it did come to mind when I was placing the fifteenth bird in there. It just seemed like a fun way to spruce up a traditional holiday mantle and bring in some more color! And in true last minute fashion, I threw that free gold mirror up there (DIY coming) that I refinished and it looks terrific!
Aside from the first couple days of some interested toddlers pulling the birds off of the garland, it has been pretty toddler proof! And it ties really nicely in with all the blue and white pottery! You can see we love birds around here (our TJ Maxx birds with a DIY painted black shade tie in perfectly (and unexpectedly!)
Next up, take a stroll through our empty dining room/ playroom: We currently don’t have a dining room table (with a kitchen table that seats 11 comfortably) we find it unnecessary, so our dining room is wide open with space for the kids to build trains, towers, and set up their tee-pee. This room is largely a blank slate since DIYing the paneling in there and we are undecided on what to make it permanently as our needs are perpetually changing. So for the season, some inexpensive wreaths are the extent of the decor.
Next, come on through our entryway. This room has seen a huge transformation (including painting the fiberglass door) but that unpainted wood trim is still haunting me! One day we will get around to doing the staircase!

Finally, we have come around full circle to our living room, where we have our Christmas tree. This room gets the most sun in our house and is the most finished. Our tree this year is a hodgepodge of our favorite ornaments with some inexpensive gold ribbon and our DIY tree skirt.
As you may have noticed, everything is done on a budget around here! We love stretching every dollar. Make sure to stick around and check out some of my favorite recent projects like our Powder Room Refresh (for several hundred dollars) and our Kids’ Bathroom Reno which we did for under $400! As well as my daughter’s bedroom and our nursery!
And make sure to check out all the other amazing holiday tours! I know I am pinning up a storm pinning their beautiful homes!
