Ok, so I have a confession to make: I am not a good seasonal decorator. Year round decorating–I am good at that! Every year in January, I swear off Christmas decorations when it takes me so long to put away all the decorations–vowing that the following year we will have a “festivus pole” in lieu of a tree. You can guess what happens of course the next December…
And fall decorations never happen! In reality, my four year old is actually a whole lot better than me at it! She always wants to “decorate” usually with her original drawings. We go through a lot of paper, tape, and markers at our house! Currently, our kitchen windows are filled with all of her creations–cut outs of hearts (for Valentine’s Day), stars and Elsa drawings (for her birthday)! It looks like crap from outside but it makes her so happy.
So when 1-800-Flowers contacted me to talk about something that brings beauty to your home AND is easy, I jumped! That is my kind of project these days (as in a 5 minute project)! Plus, it is such a treat for me to have fresh flowers in the house! And of course, after adding the fresh flowers I had to zhush up the table again with all my blue and white!
We have never been big Valentine’s Day people. Spending lots of money on chocolate is not my thing–nor are really fancy dinners. Seriously, give me a chocolate shake and a burger instead! But affordable beautiful flowers–that is my love language! Usually, for special occasions, E surprises me with a real orchid, which I manage to keep alive for a few weeks (they have them on 1-800-Flowers too!)
But when I saw the beautiful and cheerful tulips available on 1-800-flowers, I immediately ordered them. Tulips mean spring to me! And with this dreary winter, I need all the reminders that spring is indeed coming! This winter has been way too long!
As a child, my mom and I planted over 80 tulips in our yard. Of course the pesky squirrels moved a lot of them, and for years tulips would pop up in the middle of our lawn! See, I was the dorky kid who was constantly hounding her mom to garden and make the Martha Stewart crafts out of the magazine. So fast-forward to when I am 24 and getting married…remembering my love of tulips, my mom planted another 150 pink bulbs! It was absolutely stunning and such a sweet present! So while not as traditionally romantic as say a rose, tulips remind me of our wedding, and of my sweet childhood!
There are tons of flowers available on 1-800-flowers and for a limited time you can order them 20% off. Hey, you might even surprise your husband when they arrive at the door and you tell them they are from a secret admirer 😉 Any which way, whether you give your husband a handy hint by leaving it open on the computer, a subtle email, or ordering them yourself, you are sure to receive gorgeous flowers that add color, warmth, and beauty to your home! And are as easy as just adding water!
