Recently, Miss B has stopped napping. It has been a slow process of starting to skip naps several months ago, going down to one nap every other day, and now she’ll take a nap every few days (regardless of how much activity we do!) When this first started happening, I genuinely panicked. B has always been my good napper (Jack–not so much #NoNapJack) I relied on that afternoon nap time to get stuff done–to work, prep dinner, and just sit down and take a breather and regain my sanity! I am the first to admit that, many times I would just plop down on the couch with my laptop and decompress by turning on RHONY (my husband thinks I am absolutely crazy!)
After I got over the initial shock of her skipping naps, I soon found there were other surprises. She would quietly slip out of her room, and I would find messes everywhere. Barbies in the (empty) bathtub, bookcases unloaded, clothes strewn everywhere, bathroom facilities used without cleaning up 😉 With our wall-to-wall carpeting upstairs and generally creak-free house, she was as stealthy as a cat.
I was happy with her new found independence and her ability to play by herself, but simultaneously freaked out by the insane messes she could make that I would only discover after the fact. She is safe and sound in her room, but when she is out and I don’t know about it I felt like my life was even more chaotic than ever. In addition to all the other things I regularly had to do during nap time, I now needed to clean up more (and had less time to do it!) Short of standing guard outside her door (negating any work I could do during her nap) I was trying not to resign myself to doing nothing. That was until I found the VTech Safe&Sound DM271-110 Audio Monitor with Open/Closed and Motion Sensors–I finally had a solution which gave me freedom to get stuff done around the house!
On top of the audio feed, two-way, talk-back intercom, it has Open/Closed Motion Sensors, which can alert me when B leaves her room. The audio feed is static free and even has a vibrate alert, so if I am working out I can feel it vibrate on my belt-clip. I now know when she leaves her room. Even if she isn’t sleeping, I know when she is in her room that she is safe (and the mess is controlled 😉 Then when she leaves, I am alerted. The best part is that you can easily pick it up at Amazon. And let’s be honest, what mom doesn’t love Amazon?
With the VTech Digital Audio Baby Monitor, I finally have peace of mind. And with the beautiful weather we are having in Wisconsin right now, I have the freedom to go outside and sit on the porch. It has a range of up to 1,000 feet, so I can put my feet up and enjoy the beautiful sunshine!
To compound things, in addition to her starting to not nap, at almost 3 and a half years old, we are entering the age of nightmares. Three nights just this week, Miss B has been up with nightmares, poor thing. So before bed, we now talk about the glow-on-ceiling night light that the DM271-110 can double as. Even though it doesn’t cure the night time troubles, it helps alleviate some of the fear.
